winnie cooper, mathematician
while working on job applications today (yes, please gag me), i happened across this little chestnut: danica mckellar, aka winnie cooper from tv's the wonder years, delivering the ucla department of mathematics' 2007 commencement address. wtf? why, danica is a proud 1998 ucla math major herself! and she's even written a book*. i have to say, in principle i actually think this is all really cool, but her address made me cringe so much my face got tired.
i feel like a doogie howser reference needs to be worked in here now, but i got nothing. fire away in the comments....

That was painful! Talk about a frivolous, embarrassing speech. I walked away from my laptop while she was BLAH BLAH blahing, and Jake walked on the keyboard and somehow turned it off! Now that's a GOOD cat!!! :)
P.S. I typed this very slowly and deliberately (like Doogie Howser), and hit the backspace a lot for good measure.

Holy crap, worst commencement speech ever. I couldn't finish it--I was too uncomfortable and embarrassed for her.
I never liked Winnie Cooper on the Wonder Years--she was too uppity.

tell me about it! to this day, me and my friends from home still don't understand why kevin never went for madeline.
